Demand to move Khaleda Zia abroad politically motivated: Hasan

PBC News:  Attempts are being made to take BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia abroad “showing the excuse of her illness,” Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said on Wednesday.

He made the remark while addressing a function to distribute Eid gifts, organized by Bangladesh Krishak League (KL) at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital as special guest.

“Begum Khaleda Zia is sick and has been undergoing treatment at a hospital. We pray for her early recovery and return home. Despite the court declined to give her bail, our prime minister released her at the beginning of corona pandemic using her authority given by the constitution. It was extended twice. But, the BNP leaders are now demanding to take her abroad showing the excuse of her sickness,” Hasan Mahmud said.

“The coronavirus treatment in Bangladesh is also same in England, Singapore and Europe. So, such a demand is mainly politically motivated,” he said.

He said Awami League would work as vanguard against all anti-state political conspiracies.

Hasan said conspiracies against the country are going on even in the prevailing COVID 19 epidemic.

“When we were celebrating the golden jubilee of the independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, then mayhem was carried out across the country from March 26 to 28 under the banner of Hefazat. But, BNP and Jamaat took part in the anarchy,” he added.

The minister said the Hefazat leaders met with the home minister some times. But the government is determined in taking tough actions against the all culprits.

“We would not trust anyone. We will have to uproot all conspiracies and obstacles,” said Hasan, also AL joint general secretary.

Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury addressed the programme as the chief guest with KL president Samir Chanda was in the chair.

AL organizing secretary Mirza Azam, KL general secretary Umme Kulsum Smriti, Hosne Ara, MP, Shamima Shahriar, MP and KL vice president Sheikh Jahangir Alam, among others, addressed the function while KL leader Biswanath Sarker Titu conducted it.
